mat carriers
the art of mindful carry
“i did not begin with a product idea. i began with a simple need: something beautiful, soft and intentional to carry my own yoga mat.”
— kalina, founder of kalarthe.
origin story — from macramé to movement
before kalarthe became a language of ritual objects, my hands already knew the rhythm of cord.
macramé was my first way of listening through the hands — knot after knot, pattern after pattern, until structure began to feel almost meditative. at first, it was decoration. then it became practice. then, slowly, it became something I wanted to carry into everyday life.
the first mat carrier was born from a very simple frustration: i could not find a yoga mat strap that felt both functional and beautiful. most were too plain, too technical, too thin, or too disconnected from the atmosphere of practice.
i wanted something softer. something with weight, texture and presence. something that could hold the mat, but also feel like it belonged to the ritual of arriving.
that is where the kalarthe mat carrier began — as a natural evolution from macramé into movement.
the practice begins before the mat opens
a yoga practice does not begin only when the body touches the mat.
it begins earlier — when you roll the mat, leave the house, walk to the studio, step into a quieter rhythm, and choose to make space for yourself.
for me, the object that carries the mat should not feel like an afterthought. it should belong to the practice. it should be strong enough to serve, soft enough to touch the body, and beautiful enough to become part of the ritual.
a kalarthe carrier is not only a way to transport a mat. it is a tactile reminder that even the transition can be intentional.
not just a strap
a mat carrier is a functional object, but it does not have to feel purely functional.
each kalarthe piece is created to hold the mat securely, sit softly on the shoulder and bring visual calm into the everyday movement between home, studio, travel and practice.
the wide braided structure helps distribute weight more gently than a thin strap. the softness of the cotton cord makes it comfortable against clothing and skin. the hand-braided texture gives each piece its own rhythm, so the carrier feels less like equipment and more like a crafted companion.
every kalarthe mat carrier is braided by hand in my studio in poland.
there is no machine rhythm here. only hands, cord, tension, repetition and time. each knot has to be placed with attention, because the final piece depends on the balance between structure and softness.
too loose — and the carrier loses strength. too tight — and the braid loses its natural movement. somewhere between the two, the object begins to feel alive.
this is what i love about macramé. it is not only a technique. it is a quiet conversation between hand, material and patience.
beauty matters, but a carrier must also work.
the structure of each kalarthe strap is designed to hold the mat securely and make carrying feel easier. depending on the design, the carrier may include adjustable loops, wooden rings, a wide shoulder section or a softer decorative braid.
the goal is always the same: to create a piece that supports the body without losing its aesthetic presence.
because your mat may be light, dense, thick, slim, cork, rubber or travel-sized — and the carrier should feel natural with the mat you actually use.
the ritual of receiving
receiving a kalarthe carrier should feel calm from the first moment.
each piece is wrapped with care, protected for travel and prepared as an object made by hand — not pulled from a warehouse shelf. the packaging is simple, natural and intentional, designed to honour the time placed into the making.
when you open it, i want you to feel the atmosphere of the studio: cord, hands, quiet focus, softness, and the sense that something was made especially for you.
made to order, shaped for you
each kalarthe mat carrier is made to order in my studio in poland.
this allows me to stay close to the object from the first measure of cord to the final knot. instead of producing anonymous stock in large quantities, i create each piece with attention to the mat it will carry, the way it will be used, and the person it is made for.
because every carrier is created by hand, small adjustments are possible. if your mat is thicker, heavier, unusually slim, or if you need a slightly different length, loop size, colour or finishing detail, i can adapt the piece to better support your practice.
made to order means slower production — but it also means more care, less excess and a more personal object.
not pulled from a shelf.
not mass-made.
created when it is needed.
the final mark
efore a kalarthe carrier leaves the studio, it receives its final mark.
a small tag, stamped by hand, becomes a subtle signature of the making process — a reminder that this piece was not taken from anonymous stock, but created slowly, touched carefully and finished with intention.
small details hold the whole language of the object.
carry what brings you back
a mat is more than a surface.
it is the place where the body returns to breath, where tension begins to loosen, where movement becomes listening.
the object that carries it can be simple — but it can also be meaningful.
kalarthe mat carriers are created for that in-between space: between home and studio, movement and stillness, daily life and practice.
not only to carry your mat.
to carry the intention of returning.

shaped for your mat
if your mat is thicker, heavier or simply different from standard sizing, i can adjust the carrier to better fit your practice.
you may choose the colour, length, loop size or finishing details depending on the design. for selected models, i can also create a bespoke version for a studio, retreat, event or personal ritual set.
because the object should not force your practice to fit it. it should be shaped around the way you move.
B2B
for studios, retreats and curated spaces
for larger orders, kalarthe works in small batches.
because every carrier is hand-braided, wholesale and studio orders are created in limited quantities, with time reserved for colour selection, sizing and finishing details. this allows each batch to remain consistent, personal and true to the slow craft behind kalarthe.
ideal for yoga studios, retreats, boutique spaces and limited event editions.
